Our purpose

To glorify God through fellowship and loving ministry
and by drawing others to Jesus.

This statement encapsulates everything we do at Larnaka Community Church.
It’s based on two main passages of Scripture:

“Jesus said, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul and mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbour as yourself. All the Law and Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
Matthew 22:36-40

“Jesus said, `Go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
Matthew 28:19-20

From the first of these passages, known as the Great Commandment, we take the expressions “Love God with all your heart” - that’s worship, and “Love your neighbour as yourself” - that’s ministry.

Then from the second passage – The Great Commission – we are told to “Go and make disciples” – that’s evangelism; “Baptising them” – that’s incorporating into fellowship; and “Teaching them to obey everything” – that’s discipleship.

So we exist for these five reasons:

  • To celebrate God’s presence. This is the number one purpose of the church, to celebrate God’s presence - in other words to worship Him.
  • To demonstrate God’s love through ministry.
  • To communicate God’s word by evangelism.
  • To incorporate God’s people into His family – this is fellowship.
  • To educate God’s people – this is discipleship.
