Here is an exerpt of the Introduction:

“It all began in Shanghai.
In the years that followed, two invasions and two civil wars, in China, as a boy and later, in Afghanistan, as a doctor, who had specialized in ophthalmology.
Japan had invaded China. In the late 1930s, our family
watched Japanese fighter planes bombing Shanghai.
Later, in 1949, Mao Tse-tung marched south with his
communist People’s Liberation Army, defeating the Nationalist Army Of Chiang Kai-shek.
The coup d’etat of April 1978, in Afghanistan, was quite
another story, an experience we shall never forget! Our home in Kabul was suddenly shaken by thundering shells and rockets, with the sound Of gunfire and tanks rumbling down our road a few yards away, Jet fighters dive-bombed the palace in Kabul, and when a tank shell screamed past our boys’ bedroom window, we
took the family downstairs at speed, under the dining room table!
At the end of 1979, Soviet forces invaded Afghanistan.
From an early age, I felt the call of God to serve Him, as a doctor, probably in a country distant to the UK. The country that captured my interest and affection was Afghanistan, By this time, I had specialised in eyes (ophthalmology). I was introduced to NOOR, a fine eye-care programme in Afghanistan.
Prayer has been a vital part of my daily walk with God. This has included, at times, prayer ‘in the name of Jesus’ for healing, even in the medical context.
Let me now share some of these experiences while in search of the healing place.
